I'm trying to use Miranda and have a few problems. First, I keep seeing contacts that I've already deleted from the list. Sometimes, it'll say that it can't delete certain contacts cause they're on a server but that when I sign in again the names will be gone. But sometimes it'll say they were deleted and when I sign in they're still there. Also, every time I sign in I get a message telling me that there was a fatal error in yahoo, that I didn't enter an icq number and one asking me for my real name and user name for irc. Yahoo I know is correct because I checked it. But I don't use icq or irc. So how do I get it to stop asking me for those? If I was to use irc, do I need to sign up or just enter some info there and it'll connect me with rooms etc? Finally, I have no way of hearing sounds when I send or receive messages. How do I do this? I really want to use this thing as my Windows equivalent to Adium cause I've got several messengers and only Windows Messenger seems to be accessible on it's own. Thanks.
I'm sorry, but this is exactly why I stay away from miranda.
I get people boasting to me about how there messenger only uses 4mb of ram which is kinda nice I guess, but its so qwerky that it alienates quite a number of potential users.
Its just little things like not supporting voice clips and the issues that your expeariencing at the moment that annoy me about it - things like that just shouldn't happen out of the box. I know there are people that are thinking meh, no voice chat or voice clip support - doesn't matter, i'll just use teamtalk, but at the end of the day, I don't want to have tuns of programs open to make up for the pitfalls of another program.
Multi messenger support seems a tad over the top as well - I know that there are people that are going to only use it for one messenger and if thats the case, why not just use your default messenger client? Why do people have more than one messenger anyway? If someone wants to talk to me badly enough then there'll sign up to the messenger service that I use as apposed to me signing up to theres.
Incase you couldn't tell, I don't have anything constructive to say but the zones populated with many miranda users so someone should pop along soon.
I hope so. I usually stick with MSN but got the other messengers cause I was using Adium at the time and it was a breeze for everything. come back to Windows and get more bullshit I guess. I just want to find something that plays nicely. I tried downloading the latest version of Yahoo but it barely worked for me and then installed a stupid toolbar ontop of everything that I now have to delete. I'm guessing AIM, GTalk and LJ Talk will be the same.
If you get andres miranda, its got all your questions answered, just delete the plugins that you don't want from the folder. http://onj1.andrelouis.com/programs. Enjoy.
Or just disable the Plug-ins. And voicechat with MSN, AIM, Yahoo, is shitty. Well with Yahoo its alright. But I don't like Yahoo Messenger.
man the old voice chat in msn 6.2 use to be so clear.
Personally i love miranda and use it all the time.. all i care about is an IM client i can chat with .. i don't care to voice chat and all that extra stuff so it doesn't matter if miranda supports them or not for me . Miranda is a very customizable tool so it comes with no sounds and or plug in you have to add your own sounds to it and etc. So if you aren't a tweaker and doen't have sounds at the ready you w would like to use with it .. doenload and already configured one like andre's miranda as listed above. Also to solve the problem of ICQ and other clients that you aren't using from popping up and asking you for info .. when installing miranda uncheck icq and all the other clients you don't want. Much the same with installing yahoo messenger or other apps. pay attention to the install wizard tab through for all the check boxes and uncheck tool bars and all that that you don't want installed .. don't just keep clicking next next next to breeze through the install with out paying attention to what each screen in the install wizard is asking you . Yes in most cases you wont have to change any of the info but thats how you stop it from installing toolbars and all the other extra junk they come with, is by unchecking the option to install them. Unfortunately this is the downfall of dealing with free software its usually advertisement supported one way or the other . Hope this helps.ther
I actually liked aim's talk in 6.0. Sounded fine for me anyway.
Miranda IM does support Voice chat, look for Miranda Com on the plug-ins page. it also supports webcams too. But I agree with what Steve Said, Voicechat isn't important to me either. Just as long as I have a client.
